Bishop Baylon Heeds Appointment as New Bishop of Legazpi Print E-mail

His Excellency Most Rev. Joel Z. Baylon, D.D., Bishop of Masbate becomes the 6th Bishop Elect of the Diocese of Legazpi as the Vatican announces at 6:00 pm today his new appointment. Bishop Baylon takes over the administration of the same Diocese of Legazpi from the Most Rev. Nestor C. Cariño, who resigned from office two years ago. Meanwhile the Most Rev. Lucilo B. Quimbao, D.D. has been the Bishop Administrator of the Diocese of Legazpi since the resignation of Bishop Cariño.

 

In a message forwarded to the Chancery of the Diocese of Masbate, moments after the above-mentioned announcement, Bishop Baylon relayed the information that he is about to say Mass at the Carmel in Quezon City. He has also given instructions that a letter be made to inform the clergy and all the faithful about his appointment. He asked them to continue praying for him.

Chrism Mass Highlights General Reshuffle Print E-mail

After a day of Recollection at the Balay Padi in Kinamaligan, Masbate City last April 6, 2009, the clergy of the Diocese of Masbate gathered together for the celebration of the Chrism Mass. Yesterday, April 7, at  8:00 o'clock in the morning, the faithful filled the Cathedral of St. Anthony of Padua in Masbate City for the yearly renewal of Priestly Vows. Mostly came as they usually look forward to this event and also to hear the new assignment of the pastors.
 
In his homily, Most Rev. Joel Z. Baylon, D.D., Bishop of Masbate, exhorted the clergy to have a long view of their areas of responsibility, to always remember that they are never alone , and to know that they have a task to do. The Letter of Appoinment addresed to the same clergy which was read later during the Mass recalled the 40th Anniversary of the Diocese that culminated last year. Bishop Baylon said " As we come to a new phase in our life as a Diocese we take this challenging but inspiring notion of STEWARDSHIP once again. We servant-leaders of this local Church are called upon to give of ourselves ever more generously to the ministry of shepherding God's people, in humble service and ardent charity, so that His Gospel may be proclaimed and His Kingdom established."

ACRA Stages Rally Against Filminera Print E-mail

The Aroroy Concerned Residents Association (ACRA) spearheaded a rally against the  Filminera, a foreign company now in operation at Puro, Bangon, Syndicate, Amoroy, Capsay, and Panique area in the Municipality of Aroroy, Province of Masbate. The march started at around 8 am today participated in by religious sectors, small-scale miners, and schools. They gathered at the Bariis-Amoroy junction where they staged  a program in protest of the Open Pit mining activities already in progress. 
 
Filminera authorities claim they have complied with all the requirements needed to push through with the project. They never fell short of information drives and have in fact helped build school buildings, water systems, sports facilities among communities within their area of operation.They remain open to dialogue with ACRA and any concerned groups or institutions for that matter

                                the bust of the Immaculate Conception                                                                                                                                            The ivory head and hands of the Image of the Immaculate Conception kept for veneration at the Cathedral of  St. Anthony of Padua, Masbate were found missing early this morning, November 24, 2008. According to a devotee, she saw same image already desecrated during the Second Mass yesterday. Msgr. Aquino Atendido, Rector of the Cathedral immediately had the incident reported and referred to the police blotter.

Papal Nuncio Arrives Today Print E-mail

The Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, His Grace Archbishop Edward Joseph Adams, has arrived by plane early today. Adams was met at the Masbate Airport by His Excellency Joel Z. Baylon., D.D., Bishop of Masbate, together with the Religious Sisters and well wishers. He was escorted via motorcade to the Cathedral of Saint Anthony of Padua where Bishop Baylon familiarized the former with the history of the local Church. In the same Cathedral,  the Nuncio will preside at the Mass of Thanksgiving scheduled at 4 o'clock this afternoon to cap the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Diocese of Masbate.
